Water Silhouette (2018)

Flute, Contrabass Recorder, Violin, Cello, Percussion, Voice/Electronics

Water Silhouette addresses itself to the three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. The piece is put in the context of water, which is ice, water, and air. It aims to capture the sonic experience of being inside those each state of water. The piece incorporates aleatoric and metered sections, and simultaneity of both, while live-processing of voice through electronics merges with acoustic chamber instruments. While the vocal part generally tends to stand out with its soloistic timbre, this piece was composed in an attempt to fuse the human voice with the instrumental ensemble timbre color. The majority of the text consists of phonemes that are incomprehensible in their meanings. This work centers around a question of human voice supremacy and its timbrel fusion with instruments.
